Shawna Gibbs was appointed to the Columbus Public Schools
Board of Education in January 2007 to advocate for a quality
education for all children. She Co- Chairs the Public
Engagement Committee and serves as a Board liaison to the
African American Advisory Council.
Currently, Gibbs is the Public Relations Manager for Girl
Scouts-Seal of Ohio Council, Inc. where she manages media
and community relations for 31,000 Girl Scouts and
volunteers in 17 Central and Southern Ohio counties.
W. Shawna Gibbs serves on the Board of Directors of the
National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation and I
Know I Can-Columbus. She is a past Commissioner of the
Columbus Community Relations Commission.
Gibbs graduated from Columbus Alternative High School in
Columbus, Ohio and Clark Atlanta University with a B.A. in
Political Science. She is a graduate of the United Way of
Central Ohio’s Project Diversity, the African American
Leadership Academy and Leadership Ohio.
W. Shawna Gibbs is an avid supporter of City Year Columbus,
a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the Black
Women’s Collective.
Her honors include: Business First Magazine’s 2002 “Forty
Under 40 Award,” The Women’s Fund of Central Ohio’s 2003
“Bring It On Award,” The King Arts Complex’s 2004 Community
Leadership Award,” and the 2005 “Moccasin Award” from City
Year Columbus. |
